Admission to the Commonwealth Campus
In order to take graduate-level courses, you must be admitted by the Graduate School. Students who wish to take only a few courses for credit (up to 12 hours total, max 6 hours per semester) must apply under Commonwealth Campus status. (More about this status.) You can apply as a Commonwealth Campus student if:
- You have an undergraduate degree (or expect to have one before beginning course)
- You are NOT a degree-seeking student at Virginia Tech
- You want to take a few courses for credit but NOT work towards an entire degree

To be admitted as a Commonwealth Campus student, you must:
- Fill out the application form
- Pay a US$25.00 non-refundable admission fee online
- Submit a photocopy of your official undergraduate diploma or transcript

Not all eLearning courses offered by Virginia Tech are open to Commonwealth Campus (non-degree) students. If in doubt, contact us or phone 1-866-791-4898 to check. Your $25 application fee returned cannot be refunded even if you later find you cannot register for a particular course.

- If you have filled out the Commonwealth Campus application but have not heard whether you have been admitted within a week or two, please contact vto@vt.edu or call 1-866-791-4898 to check your status.
- If you do not have a Bachelor's Degree you cannot apply under Commonwealth Campus status.
- If you are already a degree-seeking student at Virginia Tech you must register through the Hokie SPA.
