Introduction
Dr. James I. Robertson, Jr., Alumni Distinguished Professor of History at Virginia Tech, presents Social Aspects of the Civil War, a blended online course consisting of six audiovisual lectures addressing the human side of our country's greatest and most tragic war.

Format: The course is presented online and via DVD in six modules. The online flash (non-DVD) version of the first module is currently available free to Virginia Tech alumni through VTalumnNET. Participants with high speed internet access can enjoy richly illustrated flash presentations narrated by Dr. Robertson. Modem users may wish to view the course materials via DVD. All participants will be able to access multiplayer Civil War trivia and participate in an online discussion with Dr. Robertson (check the course website for dates and times). Don't miss out on this exciting opportunity to experience his engaging and unique brand of teaching and learn about our nation's history through his stories told with a keen insight into the lives and feelings of those who witnessed it firsthand.
Timetable: Participants can register online at any time and can then access the course website within 1-3 days. DVDs will be shipped within a week of registration. The course is self-paced, and participants are granted open access to the website for a full year. Participants will receive an email notifying them of dates and times for Dr. Robertson's online discussion.
Faculty
Dr. James I. Robertson, Jr., Alumni Distinguished Professor of History, is the author of many award-winning books on the Civil War. Dr. Robertson appears regularly in Civil War programs on the Arts & Entertainment Network, the History Channel, and public television. He also does a weekly broadcast carried by eleven public radio stations. His book, Stonewall Jackson: The Man, The Soldier, The Legend, was a main selection of two major book clubs and has won eight national awards; movie rights for the book have been sold. |
